Long, slightly crowned rollers on toroidal raceways: compensates for both misalignment and axial displacement of the shaft within the bearing, without passing additional load to the support.
Where it is used
Floating support for long shafts that expand with heat: drying cylinders of paper machines, fans, conveyor pulleys, rolls, drives with a long distance between supports. The outer ring can still have a tight fit in the housing.
When not to use
It takes no axial load, so it cannot be a locating support and does not replace a spherical roller bearing. The shaft must have a second support that locates it axially.
