Product summary
UCFS 324: bearing unit.
A bearing in a ready-made pillow block or flanged housing: it is bolted to a flat surface, no bore machining is needed. Usually self-aligning, sealed and greased at the factory.
Where it is used
Drive and take-up pulleys of conveyors, fan shafts, screw conveyors, transporters, agricultural machinery: frames made of channels and plate where coaxial bores cannot be machined. Locked to the shaft with set screws, an eccentric collar or an adapter sleeve, while the spherical seat in the housing compensates for misalignment.
When not to use
Do not treat it as a replacement for a bearing in a machined housing bore: only the shaft bore matches, while the mounting is different, feet or a flange with its own bolt pattern, so the unit simply will not fit. Conversely, a bare bearing will not replace a unit: you lose the seals, the shaft locking and the misalignment compensation the unit was chosen for. Speed is limited by the seals and the set screw locking: at high speed the seal lips heat up, and the screws wear out the seat on an unhardened shaft.
