Where it is used
Vibrating screens and sieves, belt conveyor pulleys, crushers, mills, high-power fans, long line shafts that deflect. The spherical outer raceway compensates for misalignment of supports in a welded frame that cannot be corrected by machining.
When not to use
Do not fit it instead of a deep groove ball bearing in a high-speed assembly: in the same size, a spherical roller bearing can have a limiting speed several times lower, so the assembly will overheat and push grease out through the seals. The reverse swap costs even more: if the supports are misaligned, any rigid bearing will run on the edge of the raceway and start spalling within a few hundred hours.
