When not to use
Do not fit it instead of a ball or cylindrical roller bearing: without a second support that closes the axial force, a tapered roller bearing has no preload. The rollers unload and start sliding on the raceway instead of rolling, which leads to scoring and rapid failure. Note that matching d and D proves nothing: a tapered roller bearing is specified by its mounting height T instead of the width B, so the seat width differs and the assembly needs adjustment during mounting.
